Being an avid Beatles fan growing up, if it wasn’t for their highly recognisable branding, I would have drove straight past St Peppers Vintage and Vinyl Collective and missed the goodness inside. When walking into their tiny shop front I was greeted by the co-owner Heather, along with a treasure trove of vintage pieces and a fairly decent vinyl collection. Although their stock turns around quite quickly, there are always many rare items to be found at decent prices. So if you’re after some legitimate secondhand/vintage pieces, why not checkout their Northbridge shop front this week? Also, if you’re up in the Northern Suburbs, they currently have a pop-up shop open at Westfield Whitford City Shopping Centre. ST. PEPPERS VINTAGE &VINYL COLLECTIVE 241 Newcastle St,Northbridge, 6000 Opening HoursMon-Sat: 10am-7pm

Being short sided has its down sides; mostly being the fact I can’t see at all without glasses. Though when there are people out there that dedicate themselves to helping us four eyes out, things start looking up. Many moons ago when when my optometrist dropped the news that I’d need to wear my glasses full time, there weren’t many options in Perth for those that dared to be a little more alternative with their frames. Though thankfully, and as a result of a like-minded friend’s suggestion, I wandered into Blink 138 Opticians in Leederville and was pleasantly surprised. Patrick Quinn, co-owner & operator of Blink 138 with his son, shares that ‘this is all purely my own taste in things. No labels. It’s all my own personal stamp and my son’s own personal stamp on what we think people should be wearing.” Instead of having cabinets packed with designer brands that almost overwhelm…

Floral has been pretty constant in men’s fashion over the last few seasons; especially in the recent rise of street wear and the return of Hawaiian prints. And with the likes of Nick Wooster and Simone Marchetti continually pulling out many different statement floral pieces, here’s to hoping lots more men feel confident enough to adopt a little more colour into their everyday staples. Today we searched the pages of the web to find a few snaps of some pretty dapper gents showing how to pull off a floral neck tie. Why not consider stepping away from the plain colours or plaid patterns, and check out our 2015 Autumn/Winter Collection for your next neck tie purchase. Although its getting to the end of Winter here in Australia the chill is still there, and so before it completely disappears and the warmer months invade us, I thought I’d send some inspiration your way regarding the good of Overcoats. Yes, nothing reminds me more of Europe than heading outside in an oversized overcoat to protect you from the elements, though why settle for a standard black overcoat when there are so many styles and colours to play with. Nestled amongst the coco palms and glassy swells of Seminyak, Bali, lives the tropical oasis known as Motel Mexicola. We had been driving past this place all week during our recent trip, and each time it looked more and more enticing with all of it’s colour and lights. As we entered the courtyard inside, by-passing the colourful shrine of what seemed to be a “deity of cool” (of whom they thank for tacos and tequila), it actually felt like we had travel to Mexico. Renowned Veracruzano “Jarocho” chef, Alejandro Urbina brings his “espirítu salvaje” to the plate in the form of proper flavour-filled tacos that will (in their words) “make all the nachos and grey burritos you’ve ever ate look like the decaying corpse of Hernán Cortés.” We went in the late afternoon when tacos were only on offer, though their menu also stars tostadas, aguachile, quesadillas and other legit antojitos (that’s tapas) in the…

This week’s featured Shop Front is Leederville’s Remedy; a local store full of endless goodies. Promoting Australian makers and Fairtrade products is the concept behind both Remedy’s Leederville and Fremantle spaces. “In the early days we worked hard to find Australian makers and to have our customers understand the benefits of organic and Fairtrade products” explains owner Melanie.  “The market over 11 years has changed significantly now. We are approached by makers almost daily, and global awareness of Fairtrade is stronger than ever.” For two relatively small stores, Remedy stocks an extensive array of product, including many local designers!  Along with a large Homewares and soft furnishings by Bonnie and Neil, Uimi, Third Drawer Down and Kip and Co are all there awaiting your perusal. Though the bits we like best are the shelves and shelves jam packed with body & bath goodness by Aesop, Page Thirty Three and Ute. So if you’re feeling nostalgic or just want…

Being married to a proud bearded man, it would be a miss of me not to share with you all this next corner of the city. Of course many of you good Perth folk may already be aware of Uncle Joe’s Barber Shop, but for those that aren’t; you’re welcome! Previously home to Zekka, this King Street space is the brainchild of Head Studio, and has seriously been fitted out with every detail in mind. From the swirling red, white and blue barber’s pole at the entrance, to the subway tiles and antique barber chairs. From what I’ve been advised, the morning queues are well worth the wait, so if you’re in need of a no-nonsense hair cut, or would like one of their dedicated barbers to finally give some attention to that out of control beard, grab a takeaway coffee from the attached Uncle Joe’s Mess Hall and jump in…

Joel and I came across this neat little spot around the corner from us a few weeks back when looking for coffee, though we went back this morning to try out their breakfast menu, and I thought I’d share. Located on pleasant little Hobart street, where you don’t have to fret if you’ll get hit by a car when crossing the road, is Hobart Deli. Being only short bike ride from our house, it will be hard not to keep going back every Saturday morning. Firstly, I’d like to mention that I love a cafe that dresses their shop well, and this one did not disappoint as we were greeted by a lovely wall of genius by one of Perth’s local talents; Creepy. The inside was full of lovely things to look at too, and they seemed to have gotten into the Christmas spirit – Which I loved! There were plenty quirky…
